👻 A SPOOKY HAPPY HALLOWEEN 👻

It is currently 1 hour past midnight on a Sunday, 31 October 2021.
The best time of the year to disturb the peace on a cemetery!

This area is called the Näsinmäki Cemetery, located on a hill just opposite of the Old Town in Porvoo.
Founded in 1789, which makes it the 4th oldest cemetery in Finland.
In the 18th century the churchyard around the Porvoo Cathedral was suffering from severe congestion, several attempts were made to cancel the burials in the church. Buried corpses had to be lifted up so that new graves could be dug. Bones lay around the church for pigs and dogs to feast on, which increased the danger to diseases.

During the Russo-Swedish War (1788–1790), Porvoo housed a large number of soldiers with a high mortality rate.
A solution had to be found, a hill just opposite of the Porvoo River, Näsinmäki, Which already had 652 burials from the plague epidemic in 1710 was granted to the city and parish of Porvoo. Näsinmäki Cemetery was inaugurated in 1789.

Several famous Finnish people are buried here, one of them was Johan Ludvig Runeberg (1804 – 1877).
His resting place became the highest mound of the cemetery.
Known for his poetry and lyrics to the unofficial Finnish national anthem: Vårt land (Our Land, Maamme in Finnish).
5 February marks the celebration of Runeberg Day in Finland. A pastry flavored with almonds called Runeberg’s torte is eaten as a traditional dessert.

Thank you for braving the darkness with me, i suggest we stick together and let the light provide protection from ever wandering souls.
I hope to see you back in the next scene. Have a great rest of your day and take care.
