Good morning and welcome to Vanhankylänniemi, Finland. Can you pronounce it without stutter? 😇
Permanent settlements on the shores of present-day Lake Tuusula began to form in the 13th century. At the time the lake was called Kaukjärvi.
In the 17th century a member of a noble Finnish-Swedish family was awarded the area of Vanhankylä and its manor (which was rebuilt in the 1850’s) for stealing moveable parts of enemy guns during the night.

Present day Vanhankyläniemi is an important recreational and leisure area for the people living nearby.
The area offers up to 80 electrified parking spaces for cars or caravans along with a frisbee golf course, beach volleyball court, riding stables, a summer theater, a café with beach sauna, sailing and kayaking clubs and a 4 km nature trail.
We are currently on this nature trail as we walk towards the southern tip of the peninsula.

During the harsh winters, the lake will become frozen and accessible for ice skating, cross country ski or by walking.
During that time, it’s also possible to ice swim in this area.

A major annual festival called Puistoblues is organized here, a 5-day music festival and 4th largest in Finland. In 2011, 119.000 guests attended Puistoblues.

Thank you for walking with me and reading a little bit of the history and present of this place.
I hope to see you in the next scene. Have a great day and take care!
