Hello
Today we are welcomed in one of the Finnish allotments.

It is a coherent area for gardening, divided into plots.
Promoting an ecological and ethical way of life.
There are also tiny houses (cottages) and other structures on the plots.
It is possible to stay overnight in these cottages.
Fruit trees, plants and flowers are cultivated on the plots.
The cottages are private property, but the allotment site is open to the public.
Organized events such as midsummer and harvest season are celebrated annually.

As i mentioned before, there are 9 garden communities in Helsinki alone.
The associations rent the land from the city of Helsinki.
The land division includes plots used by individuals like you and me.
These plots may only be used for its intended purpose.
It’s not allowed for the individuals to hand over their plots.
Plots (cottage, and other constructions) must also be kept in good condition.
Rules are set that the individual must adhere to, such as the maximum height of trees and hedges.
What can be built on the plot is regulated by the rules of the City and the association.

A plot holder may sell his ground lease on the free market.
However, only persons with permanent residence in the same city as the garden are allowed to rent a plot.
Becoming an independent gardener is very popular in Finland.
Gardens like these are important green spaces of the city.
Helsinki plans to create more allotments in the future.
