Walking in Extremely Cold Temperatures on Lake Tuusula 🥶 Järvenpää, Finland
4K UHD
A good, good morning!
I hope the musical intro wasn’t too much? I tried to create an euphoric moment.. for a bit.
Today we are up early to witness a sunrise while walking a frozen lake (Lake Tuusula).
The time is 8.30 in the morning and the sky won’t get more clear than this.
It’s a blistering -22°c (-7.6°f), which makes this scene the coldest out of all my previous scenes, so far!
In temperatures this low, the air becomes really pure and fresh, your nose hairs will instantly freeze as well.
Definately an absurd feeling if you’ve never experienced this before!
It looks like we’re the only ones braving the cold this morning. I’m happy that i can share these little moments.
It’s been freezing so hard for weeks with almost no snow. Perfect conditions for lakes to freeze over completely.
It’s advised to never enter a frozen lake all by yourself. Lakes can have active currents beneath the ice.
These currents can have very thin ice or no ice at all, hidden beneath the snow.
Since we’re alone out here, we won’t be walking too far offshore for that reason.
Unfortunately, the weather is forecasted for warm conditions the next few weeks or so.
Otherwise machines would be able to enter the lake for making ski and ice skate tracks.
Hopefully It’ll stay freezing cold between January and March.
A sight to see a ton of people having fun on this lake!
It’s a REAL challenge to keep the camera as steady as possible.
I’m trying out new gloves as well, so far they’re doing well !
Layering your clothing is super important in harsh weather conditions as this.
In my case, i’m wearing a set of thermal underwear (trousers & shirt).
A softshell wind closed pants, a t-shirt and sweatshirt…
A wind closed insulated Down Jacket, merino lining gloves together with 100% leather & wool secondary gloves.
As well as 2 beanies, a wind closed and a warm woolly.
It can take a long time to layer up like this if you want to spend some time in the outdoors. But totally worth it of course!
Thank you for keeping me company and braving the cold together.
I hope to see you back in the next scene (or a previous scene). Stay positive, stay warm and take care of yourself.
