Welcome dear viewer, let’s take a walk around the city of Porvoo.
It’s currently 13.00 on a beautiful sunny but cold (-14°c) Christmas day (24 December).
The Christmas Ceremony inside the Porvoo Cathedral has just begun, it’s possible to attend the ceremony outside as well.
We’ll slowly make our way down through the old town towards the River of Porvoo.
A new load of snow came right in time for Christmas Season. (A night walk in heavy snow, coming soon as well)

I’ve already made numerous walks in Porvoo throughout the year, you can maybe tell that i really like to spend some time here.
The old town is so well preserved with buildings dating back to the 18th & 19th century and a 13th century Cathedral.
It’s the second oldest city in Finland (after Turku) and well maintained throughout the years.
Although, there have been many city fires over the centuries as well, as wood was (and still is) the main source for building.
One of which was the Great Fire of Porvoo in 1760. 200 of the 293 houses burned down. Cause of the fire turned out to be fish soup cooked left unattended for a moment.
The people of Porvoo showed great determination and rebuilt their houses.

Spending a day in Porvoo during Christmas Season is almost like an annual tradition. The old town is so idyllic and picturesque during the festive season.
Visiting the many cozy souvenir shops that offer special and unique items to make just about anybody happy.
There are many cozy restaurants in Old Porvoo to keep you warm and at full strength.

Porvoo has also been featured in at least 2 Hollywood blockbusters: The Jackal (1997) and Billion Dollar Brain (1967), i will link the Jackal scene in the description below.

In both movies, the location was altered. For example, The Jackal features scenes depicting Russia, but are in fact Porvoo, Finland.
And Billion Dollar Brain, a small part of the film takes place in Riga, Latvia, which is also filmed in Porvoo.

I wish you a nice and relaxing walk and enjoy the upcoming beautiful scenery at the River of Porvoo, a bit further in our walk.
If you haven’t yet and you want to, you can subscribe to the channel to find out more about Finland’s known and less known places.
I hope to see you back in the next scene (or one of my previous scenes). Have a great rest of your day!
