Welcome back to another scene, dear walker.
The first snowfall of the new winter season was exactly 1 week ago, so we say goodbye to the beautiful autumn.
We are walking in the Suburbs of Kartanonkoski, Vantaa, Finland.
Kartanonkoski roughly translates to “Mansion Rapids”.
Referring to the Vantaa rapids and nearby Backas Manor, the manor was founded in the 17th century.
In 1998, the city of Vantaa organized a competition for the planning of a “Garden Village”.
The urban planning concept was partly borrowed from the Garden City movement in Britain (19th century).
Kartanonkoski’s architecture represents a Neo-vernacular or Neohistorism style.
It is heavily influenced by the Nordic Classicism of the 1920s.
The houses are mostly two stories, but in some places as many as fivce stories.
Most homes are built using precast concrete structures synonymous with modernism.
Features common to the area include narrow curving streets, steep red-brick roofs, colorful wall surfaces and narrow window divisions.
Kartanonkoski was designed by the Swedish architectural firm “Djurgårdstadens Arkitekter“.
The area has been awarded for its original architecture.
Kartanonkoski also served as a filming location for the Finnish film series Risto Räppääjä.
Many families with children have moved to Kartanonkoski, as well as people who fly a lot for work.
The area is just 2 km from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.
Thanks again for walking with me.
I wish you a pleasant walk onwards, take care and until the next scene!
